To Members of Elf Clan: Making the World Your Own It has been our great pleasure to be able to provide you the environment of Elf Clan, via sims such as ElvenMyst and ElvenHearth. The rich and beautiful landscape, enjoyable activities, and absolute-PG setting allow you to have fun on Second Life without the stress and drama often found in other areas. There is a fact about Second Life that applies here even more than in RL: Elf Clan is what you yourself make it. One of the comments often heard grid-wide is, "I'm bored". It can truly be said that anyone who is "bored" in this incredibly creative environment surely must not be aware of the availability of activities, for there is no limit of things to do at any time. Elf Clan is what YOU make it. EVENTS We have provided the lands and environment. It is up to you, our members, to provide the entertainment. Elf Clan will thrive if our members (yes, you) put forth an effort to make it thrive. That means holding "parties" in the form of Events. The Eldars and Greeters are often asked, "When is the next event?". We have a group calendar on the wall of the Castle that lists all events at a glance. But that calendar is only filled if the members fill it. The ELF CLAN CHARTER contains a new section on "How to Host Events" that is very helpful. The Eldars usually do not put on events; we are busy enough as it is with group and sim management. The Greeters do host events, but they are limited in number and time. Elf Clan will be a continually active group only if the members themselves work to make it continually active. As Wayfinder once said, "People want to play, but most don't put forth the effort. We need people who are willing to put forth effort for the good of others." So how can you make Elf Clan more enjoyable both for yourself and for other members? There are several ways... COMMUNITY. These are beautiful and vibrant lands, but that is just pixels on a screen. There are beautiful lands all over Second Life. What makes Elf Clan special is the people. We are a community of like-minded individuals. So we encourage our members to be a community. HANG AROUND and chat with others. Make newcomers feel welcome. Instead of renting land elsewhere in less savory areas, rent land here... and support these lands with your presence (Sim fees are expensive. These lands can exist only through member support of rented land). BECOME A FAMILY. Get to know other members. Rather than just making this an occasional stopping place to see what is going on... make this your HOME. PEOPLE. Elf Clan lands will only vibrate with Elven magic if there are people present to make it do so. : ) It is a long standing experience with Elf Clan: where one person stands, others will gather. You will find that if you come to our sims and just hang around for a while, either building in Sandbox or exploring the surroundings... others will soon join you. People gather together. So hang around, be friendly, and before you know it others will be doing the same. If you come to the islands and "no one is around"... instead of leaving for other places, hang around a bit. Fix your inventory or build or experiment. Before long, you will likely find that others will be joining you and you will make new friends and have an enjoyable evening. DON'T LEAVE THE GREETING TO THE GREETERS. In truth, we are ALL Greeters, if we choose to be. Greeting is as simple as hanging around ElvenMyst Castle and saying a friendly hello to whoever drops in. There is nothing a newcomer appreciates more than a group member greeting them at the door and making them feel welcome to this new experience. This is so much a part of our group that FRIENDSHIP is one of the three traits in our core charter. So please, feel free to help the Greeters by greeting newcomers yourself. It is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. We could go on and on. Again, we provide the tools. It is YOU who provides the effort, the entertainment, the community. Rather than just considering Elf Clan a group to visit once in a while... why not assist us in making it a vibrant, enjoyable community. You do that by your personal presence, your friendliness to newcomers, and your activity. The more all of us work together, the more events and people that are present on these lands, the more ALIVE Elf Clan will be. We have provided the lands and tools. It is PEOPLE that make Elf Clan itself. You are the people... so join us in Elf Clan's wonderful rebirth! Put forth effort, hang around even when no one else is around, and make Elf Clan YOURS. : )
